Wheelchairs for swimming pools
Handicap Accès specialises in making swimming pools and spas accessible to people with reduced mobility and disabilities. We are proud to offer a range of amphibious wheelchairs specially designed for use in swimming pools. Our wheelchairs allow users to move around easily and safely in barefoot areas, with clean wheels that don’t pollute the environment in showers, footbaths and pools. Whether you’re taking a shower, getting around or swimming, our swimming pool wheelchairs will accompany you in complete safety. They are aimed at individuals as well as health, wellbeing and leisure professionals, and are designed to make bathing more accessible to all.
MULTI-PURPOSE POOL WHEELCHAIRS
At Handicap Accès, we understand that people with disabilities have specific needs when it comes to accessing swimming pools and spas. That’s why we’ve developed a range of multi-purpose pool wheelchairs.
Not all our pool wheelchairs are designed to be immersed in swimming pool water. Some of our models are ideal for getting into changing rooms, showers and foot baths and for getting around the pool, but are not suitable for immersion. Immersible pool seats are made from stainless steel, aluminium or 100% thermoplastic. They are resistant to chlorinated and salty water in swimming pools and spas, making them ideal for prolonged use in water.
To make it easier for people with reduced mobility and disabilities to get into the water, we offer wheelchairs with balloon wheels, such as the JOB wheelchair. These special wheels increase the buoyancy of the wheelchair, making it easier to get in and out of the water. The use of these wheelchairs should be limited to pools with overflows.
Finally, our range includes the SOFAO bathing chair, designed specifically for swimming. With its integrated floats, the SOFAO offers a comfortable and safe swimming experience, allowing users to enjoy the full benefits of the water while remaining in the wheelchair.
POOL CHAIRS FOR INDEPENDENT OR ACCOMPANIED USE
One of the features of our pool wheelchairs is that they can be used independently or accompanied. This flexibility means that people with reduced mobility or disabilities can take full advantage of our products, whatever their mobility.
For example, balloon wheelchairs or the SOFAO bathing chair require the help of an attendant. Its role is to move the pool chair, to ensure that the user gets in and out and to supervise them during their exercise or swimming session. This assistance is essential for people who have difficulty getting around on their own with a wheelchair or who need to be accompanied to and from the pool.
We also offer chairs designed for independent use. These wheelchairs are generally fitted with handrails, enabling users to propel and steer themselves. These wheelchairs give people with reduced mobility a much-appreciated degree of independence, enabling them to move from changing rooms to pools without assistance. What’s more, if the pool is equipped with an access ramp, these wheelchairs can even be used to get in and out of the water independently.
SWIMMING POOL WHEELCHAIRS TO HEALP PRMS ENJOY WATER ACTIVITIES
Aquatic activities are extremely beneficial for PRMs. They offer a way of gently working the joints and strengthening the muscles thanks to the natural resistance of the water. What’s more, these activities can help improve balance and coordination.
Our swimming pool wheelchairs are designed to enable PRMs to benefit from this favourable environment. Whether used by individuals at home or by professionals in public swimming pools, spas or rehabilitation centres, our wheelchairs improve access to swimming pools and make swimming possible for as many people as possible. This means they comply fully with the requirements of the Disability Act for establishments open to the public.
