Comparison of swimming pool wheelchairs
Discover our range of swimming pool wheelchairs, the most comprehensive on the market, to make swimming pools and spas accessible to people with reduced mobility (PRM) or disabilities.
What is a swimming pool wheelchair?
It’s a wheelchair that accompanies people with reduced mobility or disabilities from the changing rooms through the showers and footbaths to the pool.
Models fitted with balloon wheels, also known as PRM wheelchairs, can be used with an attendant. The wheels make it easier for the user to get out of the water. The wheelchair is positioned at the edge of the pool and then sufficiently submerged to allow the user to get in and out of the water. This launching system is recommended for overflow pools only. It can be used in place of a pool lift.
If the pool has a ramp or staircase with low steps, you can use almost all our pool wheelchairs to get people with reduced mobility or disabilities into the water. Two models are exceptions, and are only used to take users from the changing room to the poolside.
What makes our pool wheelchairs different?
Materials: Pool wheelchairs are made from stainless steel, anodised aluminium or plastic. They are generally painted with an epoxy paint that is resistant to the demanding environments of swimming pools. The upholstery is made from cordura, water-repellent or Batyline fabric, and is perfectly suited to swimming pool water.
Manoeuvring: Wheelchairs with balloon wheels require the help of an attendant. The other wheelchairs available with castors and handrails can be used individually or with external assistance.
Areas of use: All swimming pool wheelchairs allow you to move from the changing room to the edge of the pool, passing through the shower or foot baths. Models with balloon wheels make it easier for users to get into the water, and can also be used on the beach or for swimming in the sea. The Easy-Roller thermoplastic wheelchair also allows access to steam rooms and saunas without the risk of burns or deformation, the Sofao accompanies the user when swimming thanks to its float-stabilisers and, finally, the commode wheelchairs allow access to the toilet without the need for a transfer.
The seat: Shell, canvas, PU foam, rubber, with a seat that can be opened for comfort chairs.
Their capacity varies between 110 and 150 kg.
These chairs weigh no more than 20 kg.
Finally, price is an important factor, but you mustn’t neglect the quality of the manufacturer’s after-sales service to ensure parts are replaced and available. Using products with established, recognised brand names ensures that your investment will last.
